Operation Buffalo – ABC TV

Operation Buffalo is a razor-sharp Cold War satire set on a remote army base in 1950s Australia, where nuclear testing unfolds on First Nations land. Written by masterful storyteller Peter Duncan, the series stars Jessica De Gouw, James Cromwell, and Ewen Leslie. As Costume Designer, I recreated the buttoned-up façade of military order and 1950s civility—juxtaposed against the unsettling truths beneath the surface. The wardrobe, which was honoured with the APDG Award for Costume Design, echoed the era’s contradictions and helped expose the dark absurdity at the heart of this historically inspired drama.
